Well this one is quite new on me. I think we need a new logical fallacy to cover the Mail's achievement here.
The only equivalent I can think of is perhaps the headline "Man bites dog" and the story "No it doesn't".
Perhaps we can call is a "bloody stupidism fallacy" or more sceptically perhaps "Print the headline which will sell even though the actual story contradicts it fallacy", or , lapsing in cynicism for a moment, the "newspaper fallacy".
