Fred: The Definitive Biography of Fred Dibnah by David Hall

A simply written account of an extraordinary life.

I can remember Fred from his first TV appearance and the apparent near death of many innocent passers-by, closely followed by a cheeky grin and the phrase "did yer like thaart". (hint he - demolishes chimneys)

Its the subject matter and not the writing style which makes the book work. Written with Fred's help and encouragement and with input from friends and family.

Fred's metamorphosis from lanky school kid making a diving helmet out a biscuit tin, to art school, steeple-jacking, back yard mechanicking and national TV hero is entertaining to say the least.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and had a tear in my eye when Fred died.

If you don't know Fred from the TV I would guess that book will be interesting anyway but try to see him if you can. Knowing how he spoke will bring so much more of this book to life.

3.5 out of 5 stars.
